ABSTRACT:
The modern concept of what is a desktop and where it is located has changed. Business, economic and technology trends are forcing IT organizations to re-think approaches to applications deployment and access. The term "desktop" no longer refers to the graphical user interface (GUI) of the operating system, e.g. Microsoft Windows. A new concept - Desktop 2.0 allows users and IT organizations to decouple the user work environment - The Virtual Desktop, from the physical device, from the operating system and from the physical location of the device. The virtualization and decoupling of the user's work environment and its placement on the Web allows users to access their applications and data anywhere, anytime and from any device - all via a conventional browser.
